Kit Car Race Report by Mr Broadbent
Mallory Park with 'The Chicken and The Egg': 29/04/24

After a winter of building, modding, re-engineering and care, our two Greenpower Race cars were bundled down to Mallory Park in Derbyshire for what turned out to be quite a successful day of racing for all involved.

Team Chicken was sticker less and naked after a fault with the vinyl cutter stopped us from completing our blue and white 'Point S' sponsored livery. We had plenty of positive comments on the clean look, which was superb. We had a few new drivers to get out in the practice session, and, with that completed, we prepped for race 1.

In the first race, Jonnie, Lola and Charlie were selected to drive and we came a very respectable 2nd place after a hard fought last lap or two with the race leaders. The second race was even better, and we managed to stay in 1st place (and almost a lap ahead) for most of the race with the car running superbly. The weather had different ideas, however, and with an increase in wind and, therefore, an increase in resistance on the batteries, we had a drop in performance and in the last couple of laps we slowed right down and eventually came 3rd. Our best race result from race one carried us through, and we were placed overall 2nd on the day, with Jonnie, George and Charlie ending the race by the narrowest of margins in 3rd.

The Egg had a different start to the day and was in pieces before 8.00am due to the team not finishing the re-build before the event. Hero of the day, Shivam, helped saw awkward to reach long bolts, move the drive train and solder the broken speed controller using nothing but a 12V soldering iron and four inches of solder. Scrutineering gave them a raft of things to complete before finally getting ready for the one and only race of the day for the senior team.

After lap one of the senior race, we settled into 3rd place and continued to lap at a fair rate. During the last couple of laps, the lead two Kit cars started to drop off and slowly we caught them up and overtook them on the last lap… Hare and tortoise springs to mind, and the team finally finished in 1st place.

It felt good to be back on top again with both cars and we look forward to a great season of racing. This is our twelfth season of Greenpower, and with races at Castle Combe, Croft, Aintree and Goodwood fast approaching, we look forward to seeing where we place in October.
The two teams that attended on the day were as follows: Daisy A, George C, Imogen W , Ale S, Lola J, Charlie A , Shivam C, Nathan C, Arron w, Jacob M, Alvin Wu, Rhys P, Graham N, Jordan N, and our captains for the two teams were Amber F and Jonnie P.

Thank you to our sponsors for another season with us: Point S, Eagle Plastics, 4QD and Washford Finishings.
